I have lived in the Florida Keys for 30 years and have been making pine needle baskets for 25. I use the local pine tree. It is an endangered tree called the Slash Pine and is located in one small hammock in Miami-Dade county and on 5 Islands in the Florida Keys. I use many other items from our local nature in my baskets. Local wood that I tool down. Seashells from our ocean.
Pine needle basketry is a traditional American artform that I have taken to a different level by stepping out of the traditional forms.
