My name is Zelda Abeita and I am from Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM. I first learned how to make jewelry from my Grandparents and my mother at the age of 13. I contintued making the triditional Santo Domingo he-shi jewelry. We use various types of stones and shells to create jewelry that is known to the people in the area. I started working with silver and other precious metal in the mid 90's. I fabricate jewelry items using silver on silver to form an overlay technique which is borrowed fromt the Hopi tribe. I also use turquoise to incorporte into my rings, pins or other items. Mostly recently I am learning to paint on Gourds with the Santo Domingo Pueblo pottery designs or traditional designs. thank you
