Art Knight, Bakersfield, CA
Art Knight is a native of Minnesota who was transplanted to San Diego California when he was eight. Art grew up in a Christian household with two brothers, he being the middle child. Art accepted the Lord as his Savior during his 10th year of life and has since dedicated his life to sharing the gospel with those whom God allows his path to cross.
During Art’s high school years he held offices in the Baptist General Youth Conference, which included 16 churches from the San Diego area and was president during his senior year in high school.
Art graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1974 with a BA in architecture. While attending school Art worked for Mercury Publications as an illustrator. After graduating from Cal Poly before moving to Bakersfield in 1976, Art worked for Bechtel International division in Norwalk as an artist and a designer for three years. From there he went to work for two architectural firms then with Klassen Corporation. Were he used his talent to create architectural renderings, and delve into the commercial aspect of building as a licensed architect and senior designer for over 25 years.
Since moving to Bakersfield, Art has been involved in various church growth projects with Pastor John Lavender Christian Life Center now known today as Olive Drive Church, Valley Baptist, Laurel Glen, and First Presbyterian. Projects have ranged from creating a TV studio for Valley Baptist to the main sanctuary building and landscape design for the Olive Drive campus of Community Christian High School.
The artist exhibits great skill in his usage of water colors and oils. His keen ability to capture the feeling of the painting is evident in the sensual sense that he is able to create within each work. It is apparent that the artist has a special Devine gift that was given to him by his Creator. He accepts the responsibility of his gift by sharing his special insight with the subject matter and creating an intimate experience for the beholder.
