Studio 855 evolved from a hobby to a business in the mid-2020s. In the wake of a job elimination, I decided to cultivate my creative side. I've always enjoyed creating intricate handiwork using fabric but had never tried working with gemstones, glass, and metals. I made gemstone jewelry for myself, family, and friends and started Studio 855 to expand my reach through fairs, shows, and online mediums.
My tastes lean toward simple, classic designs with symmetrical patterns. My designs typically incorporate three to five elements (e.g., multiple gemstones; coordinating colors; variable-sized beads; a mix of gemstones, glass, and/or metal). The materials are chosen to produce an eye-catching highlight--a "pop" of color, a sparkle, or a size change.
My pieces are unique--no two are exactly alike though some may look similar. I march to the beat of my own drum and don't enjoy wearing jewelry (or anything else) that has "gone viral". I find inspiration in my own wardrobe, nature, automotive logos, and client suggestions.
I wear my own work so quality materials and craftsmanship are important. I rely on the grading system established by the American Gem Trade Association when purchasing gemstones, and the Mohs hardness scale informs which stones are used in delicate pieces (e.g., necklace, earrings) vs. those subject to more wear and tear (e.g., bracelets, anklets). While "nothing lasts forever", my goal is to create a product that will last.
As of now, I'm Studio 855's sole designer, manufacturer, and marketer. Join me on my creative journey.
