JANET MURRAY
Janet Murray is a lifetime musician, educated in music from age 6 through college. As a young music student, she performed regularly, playing recitals in California, Washington, Texas, New Mexico, and Virginia She has studied at Loretta Academy in El Paso, Texas, Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, at the Sessione de Musica del Arts in Sienna, Italy, with Juilliard Masters graduate Daniel Glover and John Khouri, and has played at Tom LaRatta's Master Class at Claremont Conservatory in Belmont, California. She was pianist and is the director for master classes given by Daniel Glover at her studios.
Ms. Murray directed and administered music programs in the schools, establishing an award-winning drum and bugle corps and a guitar ensemble who wrote and performed Masses. Her own children have learned one or more instruments, and perform regularly. Her students, self-confident in their playing --and performing, play in the National Adjudications for the Van Cliburn Competitions. She has taught and lectured in the San Francisco Bay area for 20 years.
Her wide repertoire reflects varied interests, having recorded a jazz and blues compact disc in 1999 as does her 3rd CD, live performances of Haydn, Beethoven, Granados, Albeniz, Chabrier, Paderweski, Poulenc, and Gershwin presented at the Steinway showroom gallery in Walnut Creek in 2004 and 2006, and, in her most recent recording, adding compositions of Debussy, Morovsky and Massenet. She played at Carnegie Hall in 2010, and 2011 and competed in the Open Piano competition in London in 2012. She perrformed in San Francisco in January and again in March in the Steinway Showroom.
She resides in Walnut Creek, California, maintains an active teaching schedule and performs for local events. She is a member of the American College of Musicians and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
