This style of marimba playing originated in the African country of Zimbabwe - where ecstatic dance and trance music can still be found as an integral part of village life.
The Singing Wood ensemble consists of 7 handmade African marimbas plus a set of gourd shakers. Ryder Webb contributes lead vocals and Danjuma Adamu is on drums. Melodies are woven through polyrhythmic voicings to create layers upon layers of kaleidoscopic beauty.
Njuzu is Singing Wood's debut CD. Njuzu means "Water Spirit" in the language of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. We find great joy and inspiration in playing this music and feel blessed to be able to share it with you.
