Add a touch of fantasy and elegance to your updo with this %100 hand crafted leather barrette/ hair slide! Each leather hair slide is completely unique, no two will ever be exactly alike.
I first draw out a template on an upcycled leather panel and carefully cut it out. I then spend a good deal of time designing the inner pattern of the piece, and cut out each little bit mindfully. I then take my pyrography pen and burn the edges of everything I have cut in order to seal it. The final touch is a beeswax finish and a good polishing. Wouldn't laser cutting be easier, you ask? Heck yes it would! And someday I will have that technology, but only if you purchase pretty things from me!
The hair stick pictured is hand carved out of mahogany, sanded smooth several times over, stained with an antiquing process involving coffee, vinegar, and steel wool, and then sealed with beeswax. These hair sticks have a really nice golden luster with black overtones.
