I wanted to make a black shawl that could be worn for a variety of occasions. I designed and spun the natural black Blue Faced Leicester wool with equal parts Huacaya and Suri Alpaca, mohair, and nylon on my spinning wheel. Then I wove it on my floor loom.
* The blue and green ribbon is meant to show off the hand dyed green nylon sparkle called Firestar. Think of the nylon as a little bit of "glitter". It may not show in the photos. There's only the hint of green. It's meant to enhance.
*The shawl is designed to have an open weave to allow a certain airiness if worn during warmer months. The plain weave pattern is meant to show off its natural beauty.
* The photos show the overall length and width of the shawl. It should come down to the waistline in back. It can be worn in a variety of ways depending upon you style and taste. I experimented with showing it pinned to the side at the hip, and in the back. Truthfully, I haven't tried wearing a shawl in that way.
CARE
I would only wash it gently by hand in warm water. Squeeze the shawl's excess water in the sink. Then roll it in a towel, and squeeze tightly or stand on it to press out the remainder of the water, and lay flat to dry. Water softener is optional. Iron on a moderate temperature. It is possible to catch the yarn in the point of the iron due to the open weave. Do not machine wash or dry. This will most likely cause felting and shrinking. Though it is custom made, it is meant to be worn and enjoyed.
