Handwoven Heirloom Custom Spun Baby Blanket

$240
Welcome to Artisan Handwovens,

The birth of a child is such a special event; It deserves a special gift. An heirloom blanket to keep your little one warm, to use during christenings and other once in a lifetime events, or decorate the room or crib, is what I had in mind when I wove this baby blanket.

* I had the yarn custom spun at a mill from 70% Suri Alpaca with 29% Cotswold Wool (conservancy breed sheep) and 1% Firestar nylon for a bit of sparkle. Suri is silky soft with a sheen to it, and represents about 20% of the breed.

* I chose an open lace weave pattern to give it a delicate feel. I hope this will become a treasured family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation. Just be sure to wash gently, and when stored, add a few moth ball to keep moths away.

* Personalize and make it uniquely your own, by decorating it with ribbons along the edges, small bows sewn in the corners, or other decorations. You can also applique the child's name and birthdate to the blanket.

WEAVING THE BLANKET
First about 450 warp threads are wound around the warping board, followed by threading them through an equal number of heddles spread among the eight shafts. When weaving is finished, the warp is secured and the blanket is cut from the loom. In all about 2' of yarn is lost at the beginning and end of every project. Then it was fulled (washed) to align the threads. This gave it a thermal quality which will make it quite warm

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Wash it gently by hand in warm water. Roll in a towel, squeeze tightly or stand on it to press out the water, and lay flat to dry. Water softener and ironing it is optional. Do not machine wash/dry. This will cause felting, shrinking, and undo fraying of yarn. Though it is custom made, it is meant to be used and enjoyed
