This spoon necklace is especially designed for people who suffer from a debilitating illness, disability or chronic pain disorder. The pewter spoon is representative of the Spoon Theory while the green bead symbolizes health, good luck, renewal, youth, and vigor. There are eight black beads because 8 is the symbol of harmony and balance. The "spoon theory" is used to explain the limited amount of energy that someone with a disability or chronic illness has available for their daily activities. The person has a finite number of "spoons" and each action they perform throughout the day "costs" one spoon. When they run out of spoons, they must rest until their body is able to afford them another spoon. This necklace means that the wearer always has an extra spoon to help them get through their day. The nickel free chain is 26" long, so the wearer can pull it over their head on days they don't want to use a "spoon" for opening the spring clasp. Each pendant is handmade and may look slightly different than the ones in the photos.
