Missouri Man

$12
The memoir of Levi Hungerford , a young man from Missouri, who in the 1850's went out into the world to seek his fortune. Leaving his father's home, life came at him from all directions and his choices were many. Unattached he took younger siblings and tried to make a good life for them all. Farming was a basic requirement to live but he sought the opportunities of his country's Manifest Destiny. In short measure he drove supplies to Ft. Laramie, cut wood for steamboats, and quarried limestones in Kentucky. The lure of gold and adventure drove him across the prairie to California. Then, as happened to so many Americans, he was drawn into the Civil War. His story is that of life in the mid-19th century, told with breath-taking wonder and awe.
