The explorers of the New World discovered a huge continent inhabited by 3 millions indigent people. When they jabbed their flags into the ground and claimed it for their respective kings, there was no consideration given for the native peoples. At first most Indians welcomed the newcomers but the Indians wee soon to discover that the strangers in their lands were interested in taking riches back to their home countries. They took over the land and dominated and subdued the native people. When war broke out between the white factions, many times Indians chose the losing side because they were promised the return of their lands. When the wars were over, the white losers were banished back to where they came from while the Indians were feared and hated. The uprisings that resulted cost thousands of lives. The first half of the book describes the early colonial wars and the second half the Sioux era oof resistance.
