"Souls" is a tribute to the fact that elephants' behavior truly indicates and reminds us that animals have souls. Elephants rejoice, cry, bond in family units and even mourn.
Some also see in this painting a second animal, a side view of parrot or bird which adds to the interest and enhances the theme of Souls.
