Seeing in Detail - Watercolors by Stephen Mcnally, Richmond, VA
"Seeing in Detail" I am not overly concerned with painting watercolors in great detail or the delineations of an object. "Seeing in Detail" refers to an impressionistic examination of the fabric of everyday objects - color, texture, style, character, form, and uniqueness. My aim is to manipulate these abstract elements that are inherent in ordinary objects so an emotional impact is achieved. By "Seeing in Detail" I hope to rid the viewer of the reactions which prevent us from using the painter's eye.
All paintings are transparent watercolor on de Arches paper hand-made from France. I use transparent watercolors in the traditional method - without the aid of white pigment - allowing the quality of the fine white paper to illuminate the surface plane, providing a greater richness of colorwithout losing the feeling of spontaneity.
