Choroloco Seattle, Seattle, WA
Choroloco is a Seattle-based acoustic ensemble specializing in Choro music, a popular and high-energy style of Brazilian instrumental music. Choro originated in Rio during the 19th century, as Brazilian musicians looked to adapt European music and styles to fit Brazilian instruments and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Today, the genre remains popular and continues to evolve with a new generation of players. Those familiar with Samba and Bossa Nova find Choro to be a natural ancestor.
Our music is highly melodic and energetic and appeals to people with a variety of tastes and backgrounds. Classical music lovers, jazz aficionados, and folkies all have found something to relate to in our music. And both kids and adults love to dance to Choro, whether they are familiar with the tradition or are simply inspired to move by the rhythm.
Choroloco has been performing together since 2008 and have performed at festivals up and down the West Coast, such as the Northwest Folklife Festival and the 2015 Berkeley Festival of Choro. We also have played a variety of venues around Seattle and beyond, including the Royal Room, North City Bistro, and Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA. We have been awarded an Artist Trust grant and a Jack Straw residency and are currently in the King County Touring Arts roster.
