Henricus is a 32-acre living-history museum located along the scenic and historic James River, just 20 minutes south of Richmond. The Citie of Henricus -- dating from 1611 – 1622 -- contains 13 re-created structures including an English fort with palisade and watchtowers, a working forge and a plantation house. Our tobacco field calls attention to an early economic venture that helped insure the success of the Colony in the New World. Henricus is also home to Mount Malady, the first English hospital built in the New World. The re-created Indian village, Arrohateck, located directly on the banks of the James River, demonstrates how native peoples lived before contact with English settlers. Living history re-enactors interpret the site with daily activities and special events while school groups participate in hands-on, interactive programs relating to early American history
