Originally born and raised in Austria, guitarist Ulrich Ellison came to the United States on a Fulbright jazz scholarship. In his two years as a US student he won three of the International Downbeat Awards in the category “Blues/Rock/Pop soloist, college winner”. After making an impression on the eclectic Austin music scene he became sideman for several notable Austin acts, including singer Nakia and songstress Abra Moore.
His music draws from various influences, including Irish folk, rock, british blues rock, jazz, world music, and bands like U2, Simple Minds and Dave Matthews Band. Dubbed as "Viking Blues", his eclectic touring band plays anything from blues festivals to jam band open airs to smoking nights in your neighborhood bar. A guitar virtuoso in his own right, Ellison captivates audiences with mesmerizing tones and evolving moods.
Ellison’s current band “The Tribe” features an international cast of musicians: "MAPEX Drummer Of Tomorrow 2012" Mike Davila, keyboardist Darrell Commander, award-winning violin virtuoso Will Taylor and wife and bassist Sabine Ellison of "Bloo Voodoo" and "Courtney Jones".
In 2012, Ulrich Ellison won #8 “Best New Band and #2 “Best Instrumental” at the annual Austin Music Awards. 2013's release of “Synergy” wil be followed by 2 domestic and one European tour.
