* I began this scarf by thinking of how the waters look at many beaches around the world. The cool translucent aqua water, lapping at your toes in the sand.
* I started with a bag of raw Huacaya alpaca. After washing it, I blended it with mohair, nylon Firestar, Suri Alpaca, and a little merino wool, and spun the yarn using my spinning wheel. Then it was dyed a range of colours from blue to sea green with earth friendly dyes. The nylon adds the sparkle.
* With enough yarn to complete the weaving, I "dressed" the floor loom. The design is determined by which heddles and shafts are threaded and which treadles (pedals) are hooked to which shafts. You can see the geometric design in the photos.
* The mauve pattern is only at each end, and is 100% mill spun silk. The pattern is: 3 inches silk, with 5 alternating rows of .75 inch alpaca and silk, ending with 3" of silk. By altering the weft yarn and design, scarves with similar warps become unique and different.
* It is 8 inches wide and 69 inches long, plus 3 inches of fringe. It's long enough to wrap twice comfortably around your neck, or loop it and draw the ends through it to make it nestle around the neck. It's light enough to be worn year round if desired.
* It has a lacy, lightweight feel to go with the delicate yarn. The design is slightly different on each side. The scarf is a lighter green than it shows in the pictures.
* Warning: The scarf is silky soft; you'll want to wear it all the time.
CARE
* I recommend it be gently hand washed/rinsed in warm water. With the excess water initially squeezed out, roll it in a towel, squeeze tightly by hand, or stand on it, to remove most of the water. This will reduce drying time too when it's laid flat to dry. Water softener and ironing on low heat is optional.
Size: 8"x 69" with a 3" twisted fringe
