Speakeasy, the newest release from Paula Harris, has already been written about in more than 2 dozen countries. It is under consideration for a Blues Music Award, The Global Music Awards, The International Acoustic Music Awards, a Josie Award, and the World Songwriting Awards. The album has been called "Groundbreaking" "Timeless" and a "A Masterpiece" and said to "Transcend Boundaries between genres and eras". It is also receiving interest due to the acoustic format that eschews a guitar...very unusual in blues.
Hailed as a modern day Dinah Washington by numerous publications, this album delivers a sophisticated synthesis of Jazz and Blues. It skillfully illustrates the era when jazz and blues were the "Pop" music if the day, and it does it on an album of mainly original material. There are 12 new songs ( 10 from Paula and 2 from Bay area friends) and 4 covers ranging from Louis Jordan and Donny Hathaway to Billie Holliday and Thelonious Monk ( for which Paula Penned new lyrics)
The album features Nate Ginsberg(Larry Graham and Herbie Hancock) on Piano, Rich Girard ( Mose Allison and Lou Rawls) on Upright Bass, Derrick "D'Mar" Martin (Little Richard, Maria Muldair) on Drums and Bill Ortiz ( Santana) on trumpet.
Ms Harris is the 2018 "Best Female Vocalist in Northern California" per the NCEMA Awards- of which she is a 9 time nominee in the Vocalist, Band and overall entertainer categories.
