"Community Feeling" Fuels Growing Popularity Of Suburban Music Festivals

The majority (55.5%) of big music festivals in the United States are held in urban centers, yet, in recent years, there's also been an increase in music festivals held in smaller, suburban areas. In fact, Bloomsberg reports that 20% of festivals are now located in either suburbs or exurbs. You can do a quick search for "music festivals near me" to see the growth in suburban music festivals for yourself. Usually, you'll find a suburban event within a couple of hours or so away. The rise of suburban festivals largely comes down to the uplifting, community feel these (often family-friendly) events provide locals. Plus, people also value the convenience of getting the live music experience without the need to travel far from home.

Tips for Moving Musical Equipment Safely from Show to Show

Musicians understand that moving musical equipment safely from one venue to another is no small feat. If you're a solo artist, part of a band, or getting booked at music festivals, ensuring your instruments and gear arrive in perfect condition is essential. With the right tips and preparation, you can protect your valuable equipment from damage and make transportation stress-free.

Prioritize Safety: Moving Musical Equipment Safely Begins With the Right Gear

The first step in moving musical equipment safely is selecting the right transportation gear. Professional-grade cases and padded covers are a must for each instrument, no matter how durable they might seem. Hard cases provide the best protection, especially for larger items like drum kits, amplifiers, or keyboards. These cases help absorb the shock of road travel and prevent scratches, dents, or internal damage. For delicate instruments like violins or guitars, padded interiors with secure straps are vital to minimize movement during transportation.

🫶 Artist Support from Craft Emergency Relief Fund

Based in Asheville, North Carolina, the FestivalNet support staff is seeing first hand the devastation caused by the recent storm.  So many artists with studios in the beloved River Arts District lost everything.

Following two days of heavy rainfall in Asheville as Helene moved north, the river experienced a historic surge. Buncombe County received up to 12 inches of rain between Wednesday and Friday, saturating the ground and rendering it soft, unable to control the deluge of stormwater that wreaked havoc and devastation along its path.

The non for profit organization CERF+ can help artists start to get back to doing what they do best.

A Guide For Providing Backstage Comfort And Facilities For Festival Performers

For music festival performers, stage hands, and tour managers, there's nothing more important than having an organized and well-equipped backstage area to have a smooth and positive concert experience. Many musicians and their staff have had too many bad experiences at music festivals due to lack of backstage facilities, most notably at a rock festival last year that had to be canceled part way through its four-day run. The band Electric Callboy was included in the event, and according to their tour manager Ian Roberts, they had to deal with a host of unpleasant backstage conditions, including a faulty air conditioner in the dressing room and having no drinking water or hospitality backstage. "Catering for lunch was pretty much non-existent at all," Roberts said. "The staff, the bands, nobody should have to experience this, ever."

Event planners should keep in mind that a festival will only be successful if the event is enjoyable for both the performers and the audience. The comfort and wellness of your performers should be prioritized, and it's imperative to supply your backstage area with all the essentials so that they can prepare for an awesome performance. Here's a guide for providing backstage comfort and facilities for festival performers.
